Wow, what a day! I barely slept last night. I kept my computer beside me all night and stayed glued to the CNN homepage as the electoral votes were being counted. Oh, I'm so happy!
As for new lesson plans, I decided to continue with the election topic for the next week or so. The plan is to discuss the voting system in the USA, the importance of electoral votes, and how Obama won the election due to the amount of votes he received. I'm giving students a map (pictured above) of the states which were either Dem/Repub/Undecided and have students find voting patterns according to the map. I will also give them a copy of Obama's acceptance speech and allow them to take turns reading parts of it aloud. I downloaded a video of his speech from youtube.com, so hopefully it will work in class without a wifi connection. If it does work (and the class had been a success so far), we will cut the reading short and let students watch the video during the last 10-15 minutes of class.
